All Aboard Piney Woods Express

“All Aboard!” is the call from the Louisiana Political Museum on one side of the railroad tracks and from City Hall on the other as Winnfield prepares for its 2023 Christmas Parade and they’re looking for folks with floats and entries to sign up for that parade.

The popular and anticipated event will be held Friday, December 1.  Everything will start at 6 p.m. and follow its traditional Main Street route.  The 2023 theme will be the “Piney Woods Express.”  Explains museum director Shonna Moss: “We sort of got the idea from the book and movie ‘Polar Express’ but adapted it for our north Louisiana location.”

Honored as Grand Marshal for the parade is Carolyn Phillips, a transplant to Winn who had worked for years to build and grow not only the community but also the people here.  She arrived as a young agent for the LSU Cooperative Extension and after retirement went on to a second career with the launch and growth of the Louisiana Political Museum and Hall of Fame where she served as director.  Through those years, in her “spare time,” she was a major player in the Louisiana Forest Festival, notably in the Timber Sports competitions.

To cap the evening of fun, a fireworks display will follow at the conclusion of the Piney Woods Express Parade.

Entry forms are available both at the Museum and at City Hall.  For details, call 318-628-5728 or 628-8169.
