Residents should prepare for another day of dangerous heat before scattered afternoon thunderstorms begin to return later this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for a high near 99 degrees, with heat index values reaching as high as 111 degrees, creating dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

Rain chances increase beginning Thursday, although hot and humid weather is expected to continue through early next week.

Monday: A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly sunny and hot with a high near 95°.

The National Weather Service encourages residents to take heat precautions by staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, wearing lightweight clothing, and taking frequent breaks in air-conditioned or shaded areas.

Residents are also reminded to check on elderly neighbors and other vulnerable individuals and to never leave children or pets unattended inside a parked vehicle, where temperatures can quickly become life-threatening.
