With no candidates, taxes or hot issues on Saturday’s ballot, voter turnout is projected to be low. That forecast was supported by the low returned when early voting closed March 22.
On the ballot are four Louisiana constitutional amendments. A total of just 387 votes were cast. Of those, 263 came in person while another 124 were absentee, coming in through the mail. Registrar of Voters Bryan Kelley said that a few more absentee ballots could still arrive prior to the March 29 election.
The breakdown of participating voters showed: White – 279; Black – 107; and Other – 1. There were Male – 149; and Female – 238. By party the numbers were Democrat – 142; Republican – 186; and Other – 59.
