
Winn Parish Veterans have been invited to enjoy a three-part Veterans Day salute this Friday when the national holiday is recognized Nov. 10. The events are planned to show appreciation of the men and women who have served or are currently serving in the military.
The honor to the veterans and what their service to this country means today will begin at Winnfield Middle School. Principal Brian Savell has invited any local veterans to come to the school library at 8:30 a.m. to join them for a celebration breakfast.
Veterans will have time to enjoy their breakfast before moving on the second event at Winnfield Primary School. There veterans will line up in cars for a parade that will begin at 10 a.m. and roll down South St. John Street in front of the school where children will be standing to wave their appreciation. The parade lineup will begin as early as 9 .m. at the intersection of Allen St. and S. St. John and wrap around the playground. Principal James King notes that backup plans are in place in case of rain.
Once again there will be time for veterans to move to the third stage of the salute after the parade’s conclusion. That will be the sheriff’s annual Luncheon for Veterans which will once again be held in the Central Louisiana Technical College (Huey P. Long campus), next to WSHS. That will begin at noon and is open to all veterans, says Sheriff Cranford Jordan. Guest speaker is Col. Houston Polson (Ret.), USAF.
