Some 650 sweat shirts are on their way to northwest North Carolina, an area hard-hit by Hurricane Helene, thanks to donations from Winn Parish residents.
As winter is fast-approaching that area, a plea for warm sweat shirts which are “needed now” went out and folks here made a humanitarian response with donations of sweat shirts and cash. Drop-off points were Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and Wattsville Center.
Volunteers at the church sorted and packed the sweat shirts and Jim Fannin delivered them to the Cajun Navy warehouse in Baton Rouge where the gift shirts were loaded into 18-wheelers together with other clothing and supplies received from across the state for delivery to North Carolina.
Organizers commented that the recent drive was “a huge success. Thanks to the many people who contributed. We don’t even know who many of these are but their support is always great.”
