Kiwanis Hears from Smith, Tarver

Businessman Mike Smith talked to Kiwanis on Oct. 24, not just about P.K. Smith Motors (soon to be 50) but also of the family businesses around him as he grew up.

Smith Grows Up in Business Surroundings

Mike Smith was guest speaker at the October 24 meeting of the Winnfield Kiwanis Club, talking about the way his family business got started.

He said he grew up around people. His mother owned a dress shop at home. So he had been around business all his life. He reminded club members of the Parkview Drive-In.

He spoke of P.K. Smith Chevrolet and said the business is soon to reach its 50-years milestone. He also spoke a little on the automobile industry in general.

Tarver Warns Kiwanians of Scams

On October 17 Kiwanian Jason Tarver, president of the local Sabine State Bank, spoke to the club on Financial scams against Seniors.

He informed the club members the most popular scam at the moment is the romance scam. The scammer targets seniors that have lost a spouse and are vulnerable at the moment.

Some of the other common scams are government impersonation, sweepstakes and lottery scams, robocalls and phone scams, computer tech support scams and the grandparent scam.
