On Saturday, September 7, at approximately 3:45 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a one-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 499 north of Louisiana Highway 34. This crash claimed the life of 34-year-old Dustin M. Pickron of Winnfield.
The initial investigation revealed that a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by Pickron, was southbound on Louisiana Highway 499. For reasons still under investigation, Pickron’s vehicle left the roadway, traveled down the ditch embankment, and struck several trees.
Pickron, who was unrestrained, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, distracted and inattentive driving continues to be a leading cause of crashes in our state. Louisiana State Police urges all motorists to stay alert while driving. A lapse in one’s awareness can have deadly consequences. Wearing a seatbelt is not only Louisiana law, it can also be a life-saving measure.
