Winnfield Man Dies in Saturday Night Shooting

A Winnfield man is being held on suspicion of the Saturday night shooting death of another Winnfield man, according to the City Police.

According to the report, a team of officers responded Oct. 28 to a report around 6:30 p.m. of gunshots being fired on Front Street around E. South Street.  They found a local resident had been shot several times.  Despite life-saving attempts by emergency responders, the victim identified as Brandon Brown, 41, was pronounced dead in the hospital emergency room.

Subsequent inquiry by police determined that a .45 caliber handgun had been used in the fatal shooting.

Police have apprehended a suspect identified as Edgar Briggs Jr., 54, who was being held awaiting bonding in the Winn Parish Detention Center, facing charges of First Degree Murder.

Officers note that an individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
