Weather was perfect for the Rotary 5K Walk & Run held Saturday as an opening event for the Winn Parish Fair.  Temperatures were cool, the sky sunny and clear and pine trees along the Country Club Road route providing additional shade here and there.

The civic organization holds the 5K each year as a fundraiser to help cover costs of is many local projects it carries out.

Competition was carried out in various categories.  The youngest is called a 1-mile “Fun Run.”  Taking that honor was an enthusiastic Kaylie Peters who was accompanied by her dad, Willie Peters.

The top three finishing times (all categories) were posted by Joshua Colyer (23:19), Jasmine Jones (25:06) and Andy Roberts (27:09).

By category, Adult Male winners were Joshua Colyer (23:19), Andy Roberts (27:09), Shane Thomas (31:48) and Caleb Reed (34:32).  Adult Female winners were Amber Gates (44:18) and Toni McAllister (48:15).

In the Youth division, Youth Male winner was Thomas Jones (37:03) while Youth Female winner was Jasmine Jones (25:06).

Those wishing to participate without running were invited to walk the 5K (3.1 miles).  Walkers crossing the finish line to applause were Kiah and Jan Beville (55:0).

“We thank those who participated this year and we pay a particular thank you to the many sponsors whose contributions make possible the Rotary Club of Winnfield’s ability to continue Doing Good right here in our own community,” said club president and event organizer Mary Lou Blackley.  “Also a special thanks to the Winn Parish Sheriff’s Office for providing traffic safety along the route.”
