Few things bring people of a community together faster than food, music or helping their fellow man. After so many have been shut inside their homes due to the pandemic over the past year, it is time to get that feeling back. Two brothers decided that it would be good to try to create a new event in an area of good, hard working people with two goals in mind. Have a good time centered around a hot bbq pit with others and give back to our veterans who have sacrificed so we can do what makes us happy.
The Piney Hills BBQ Cook Off competition was created with hopes of making it an annual event. The profits made will be donated to the Veterans hospital in Pineville, LA This event will bring together the everyday, amateur backyard griller that would like to compete and see how good his or her skills are in front of a panel of judges.
This will be a blind judged contest meaning that no one will know who’s food is being judged. There will be two categories consisting of beef brisket and St. Louis style pork ribs and will be judged on appearance, taste and tenderness. We will even have a Kids-Q where kids between the ages of 6-16 can grill up and present two hamburgers prepared any way they like to be judged. After all the judging is complete, awards and even some cash prizes will be given out. Afterward, everyone will be entertained by the Borderline band.
Those interested in becoming a contestant or a vendor may contact one of the event coordinators and we would be more than happy to get you started. There is a Facebook page called “Piney Hills Cook Off”. Gates will open for general admission at 10 AM. There will be concessions open with food and drinks.
The event will be held on May 15, 2021, in Sikes, LA at the Sikes Wolf Creek festival grounds.
