On Saturday, August 10, Winn Parish Fire District was dispatched to the Joyce community in reference to a report of a structure fire.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed a single family wood frame dwelling that was completely engulfed with flame. They also found a wood frame shed that was nearly 75% involved. There was also a manufactured home that was in close proximity that was in danger of igniting.
Firefighters deployed a 1.75” hand line and directed it to the manufactured home to cool the exterior of the structure. Unfortunately, radiant heat caused significant damage to the exterior wall covering. Once the structure was cooled, firefighters turned their attention to the storage shed and residential structure to extinguish and overhaul.
After speaking to the owner, the incident commander Chief Dustin Parker made contact with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office to request a deputy marshal due to what he termed the suspicious nature of the incident. Early on during the incident, the incident commander also requested Advanced Ambulance to standby for safety concerns due to the high outside ambient temperatures that are being experienced lately. One firefighter did seek medical treatment due to minor heat-related condition.
Chief Parker expressed his thanks to all members who responded to the incident in this treacherous heat. “We appreciate you more than you know. Also, special thanks to the WPSO, Sheriff McAllister, Deputy Bruce, Advance ambulance, LSFM and Entergy senior lineman Pitts for their assistance in this blaze.”
