Rotarians Plan 5K Fun Run to Coincide with Parish Fair

Runners, walkers and enthusiasts are invited to take part in the Winnfield Rotary Club’s annual 5K Fun Run, set this year to coincide with the front end of the Winn Parish Fair on Saturday, September 30.

Everything will get under way at the fairgrounds where the old Coon Hunters’ Pavilion near the rodeo stands will be used as the staging area.  Check-in and registration will begin at 7 a.m.  The morning is planned for all ages and stills.  Dedicated runners may run the full 5K while many others will walk or jog.

For the kids ages 1-9, there’s a one-mile Fun Run with an airball race that begins at 7:30.  For the little ones, there is no entry fee.  Rotary’s 5K event will include music by a DJ, fruit and water stations along the route and color chalk for the kids.

The 5K race itself for all ages begins at 8 a.m.  Entry fee is $20 for those registered before Sept. 22.  Later entries including same-day will be $25.  Teams of three or more receive a $5 per-person discount.  All participants will receive an event tee shirt.  Sponsors are encouraged to participate in this fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Winnfield and will get their name on the event tee shirt for amounts of $200 or more.

The Rotary Club is a service organization that helps folks here in Winn Parish and through a larger effort, assists many around the world.  Here the club provides scholarships for high school seniors, offers leadership camp opportunities for rising juniors, furnishes school uniforms for many younger students, provides dictionaries for third graders, with members working in other areas of community-building.
