What do you do if you’re a big church with a small congregation that wants to pay for building maintenance and the light bill? “Hold fundraisers, of course,” replies Carolyn Phillips who says First Presbyterian Church will be holding five fundraisers this year, the first on Monday, February 5.
Jamie Maxwell will be preparing chicken and sausage gumbo with rice which the church will be selling for $12 per quart. Pickup that Monday will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. and all meals will be take-out. The church is located at 302 S. Bevill Street. (Delivery can be provided for orders of 10 meals and more).
“This is a great hot meal for these cold, cold times,” she says. “We’ve got to repay loans for the church and manse, exterior lighting, heating, cooling, you name it. We work hard to do what we can.”
