The Covid-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on working Louisianans, especially on working mothers. The pandemic has exacerbated the hard choices between spending a significant portion of their income on childcare; finding a cheaper but potentially lower-quality option; or leaving the workforce to become a full-time caregiver. Research shows that women who drop out of the workforce to take care of children often have trouble getting back in, and the longer they stay out, the harder it is to return.
In order to help Louisiana women reenter the workforce, Louisiana Human Resources Development Institute (LHRDI) has established the Child Care Relief Fund. This fund will provide childcare assistance in the form of a $500 payment to a licensed childcare provider upon verifiable proof of new employment.
