Letter to the Community from WPSB Superintendent Candidate Jonathan Garrett

I wanted to thank you for your support of me on Monday night. I cannot tell you how much it means to me. And, if you weren’t necessarily a supporter but were still involved and active in this process and decision, I thank you for that, too. School systems are great or become great when we all get involved.

I wanted to also say how much I valued going through this process and having the opportunity to become the superintendent of Winn Parish. I have learned a lot over the last 23 years in this profession, and I learned a lot going through this process as well. I learned that I can be a superintendent, and that I truly want to be a superintendent one day. I learned that you never really know what will happen. And, I learned that I still truly love my home parish and wish you a great deal of success.

I enjoyed the interview process so much. It was fun and exciting to hear all of the questions and do my best to answer them in a way that was true to who I am and what I believe. I enjoyed the interactions with the board members over the 2 hours we spent going back and forth on issues pertaining to Winn Parish. Like I said, I enjoyed this whole experience.

I would like to congratulate Superintendent Simmons as he takes on his new role and Superintendent Bartlett as he ends his tenure as head of the school system. I wish them both the best.

While this process is now over, and it did not end the way I had personally hoped, I can’t help but feel that the opportunity to return home will one day come again, and I can assure you I will be ready. Thank you again, and I hope for the best for all of Winn Parish.
