Laurel Gunter is the Outreach Street Ministry director for Adult & Teen Challenge Louisiana. She spoke to the Kiwanis club about the upcoming WALK-A-THON to be held September 17th beginning at the Mount Grace Thrift Store. There will be food, fellowship and music after the walk which begins at 10 AM. Registration begins at 9 AM. This is their biggest fund-raiser. Adult & Teen Challenge is an 18 month faith-based program and no one is turned away because they can’t pay. There are many ways to contribute to Teen Challenge including student sponsorships and monthly donations. There are also sponsorships available for the Walk-a-Thon. There is also a program in Minden for mothers with children and pregnant women. The Teen Challenge program has a high success rate and has been around for many years.
Laura Frederick from Winnfield and a participant in the Teen Challenge program shared her testimony with the club. She has 3 children and is learning how to be a good mother. One reason the program is so effective is that the leaders have been through the program and are examples for those who are going through the program. She credits going to Teen Challenge with saving her life.
