WINNFIELD, La. — The Kiwanis Club of Winnfield officially launched its 2026–2027 administrative year during its annual Installation Banquet on Monday evening, October 5, at Mama’s Iron Skillet. The event brought together members, spouses, and guests to celebrate a successful year of community outreach and seat the leadership team that will guide the organization into the coming year.

The evening opened under the direction of outgoing President Mary Lou Blackley. A highlight of the opening business was the induction of the club’s newest member, Garrett Palma, whose application was enthusiastically and unanimously approved.

Division 11 Lieutenant Governor Kim Futrell, a member of the Winnfield club, presided over the official installation and pinning ceremonies. The 2026–2027 officers and board members installed include:

President: Ethel Howell

President-Elect: Troy Rogers

Vice President: Bryan Price

Secretary-Treasurer: Dr. Bill Gaddis

Immediate Past President: Mary Lou Blackley

Board of Directors: Miranda Atkins, Steve Bates, Margaret Coon, Jason Tarver, and Lamar Tarver

A major highlight of the banquet was the presentation of special awards by Blackley to recognize individuals whose steadfast devotion keeps the club vibrant:

Miranda Atkins was honored for stepping into leadership as Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, serving on the board, and co-managing the club’s digital media outreach.

Rita James received special recognition for her tireless dedication heading the annual Toys for Kids project, directing fruit sales, and assisting with pancake breakfasts and fundraisers.

Margaret Coon was recognized for over 30 years of continuous service, including coordinating meeting meals, reporting club news, and chairing the Terrific Kids program since 1994.

Troy Rogers was honored as the club’s 2025–2026 Kiwanian of the Year for his tireless work across public relations, event cooking, program coordination, and civic partnerships.

In turn, Dr. Bill Gaddis presented Blackley with a commemorative plaque on behalf of the club in gratitude for her outstanding guidance and leadership throughout the 2025–2026 year.

Taking the podium for her closing remarks, incoming President Ethel Howell expressed heartfelt appreciation for the club’s trust, noting her lifelong passion for children nurtured during her career in the Winn Parish school system. She pledged to lead the club in its ongoing mission: “Serving the Children of the World, one child and one community at a time.”

To help continue this proud tradition of service, the Kiwanis Club of Winnfield is actively seeking new, energetic members and young leaders who wish to make a lasting impact on local youth and community welfare. The club meets weekly at Mama’s Iron Skillet, Tuesday’s at Noon, and visitors thinking about joining are always welcome.
