Mr. John Lewis “Luther” Kerry age 82 of Winnfield passed away from this life on Friday August 21,2020 at St Joseph’s Hospice Carpenter House in Shreveport La. He was born on April 10,1938 to Ezel “Bennie” and Julia Pardee Kerry at Black Lake (Creston) Louisiana. He was a retired Sergeant of the US Army and Louisiana National Guard after serving for almost 23 years. He worked many places throughout his lifetime including Olin Kraft, Louisiana Pacific, L.L. Brewton Lumber Co., West Frasier, Weyerhaeuser, Wal-Mart and was continuing to work part time at the Winn Parish Sherriff’s Office Rifle Range. He loved to fish and spend time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years Eunice Arline Kerry, Parents Ezel “Bennie” and Julia Pardee Kerry, Brother Johnnie Kerry, Brother in Law Edward Harper and Great Grandson Douglas Thompson Jr.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara Nell Slayter of Winnfield. Grandchildren Kimberly Bruce (George), Shani Slayter, and Brandon Slayter (Jennifer) all of Winnfield. Great Grandchildren Megan Glenn (Chris), Dylan Bruce (Meagan), Savannah Carr (Colton), Billie Thompson, Braxton Slayter, Brady Fallis, Carlie Rhea Slayter, Shaina Dupree, Brian Glenn and Duane Fallis. Great Great Grandchildren Peyton Glenn, C J Bruce and Jaxon Carr. He is also survived by his siblings Bennie Kerry Jr. (Carolyn) of Winnfield and JoAnn Harper of Black Lake (Creston), nieces and nephews Dennis Harper (Charlene), Chris Kerry, Jared Harper (Patrice), and Anita Moberly (Michael), numerous Great Nieces and Nephews, former Son in Law Michael Paddie (Cindy) and numerous other friends and family who he loved dearly.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday August 27, 2020 at The Family Church in Winnfield at 2:00 PM with Reverends Joel Hines and John Hodge officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Winnfield under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Visitation will be observed on Wednesday August 26, 2020 at the Church from 5-9 and again on Thursday August 27, 2020 from 9 until service time.
Serving the family as Pallbearers will be Chris Kerry, George Futrell, Chris Robertson, Brian Glenn, Chance Guilliams, and Dennis Harper
Honorary Pallbearers will be Brandon Slayter, Dylan Bruce, Braxton Slayter, Peyton Glenn, Brady Fallis, CJ Bruce, Jaxon Carr, Jared Harper, Michael Moberly and Michael Paddie.
