Goldonna News July 7, 2021

The Goldonna Christmas in the Park committee has been working year round to make sure that the festival is a success. They recently announced two major fundraisers that will be happening in the coming weeks.

On July 24th the committee will be hosting an “Etiquacy Tea Party” for young girls ages 5-14 at the Goldonna Baptist Church. Drop off is 12:00p.m. and pickup will be at 5:00pm. The girls are encouraged to dress up in a fun dress. They will decorate their own cupcake, learn to make punch and enjoy a fun tea party while learning proper etiquette. Limited spaces are available but you contact Cesa Day for more information.

Not to be left out, there will be a “Boys Outdoors Back to Basics” event targeting ages 5-14. They will enjoy a game day and learn the basic skills of tool recognition, knotting ropes, how to tie a tie, and they will learn the fine skill of shining shoes. The location of this event will also be Goldonna Baptist Church with a drop off time of 12:00pm and pick up time of 5:00pm. All of these proceeds will benefit the funnel cake booth at the Christmas in the Park festival.

The Goldonna Dusty Cut League finished their year in a strong way bringing home the 2nd place title in the 14-17 year old tournament. They were coached by Tommy Norman and Joey Harvey.

The 11-13 year olds also won 2nd in the tournament under the coaching specialist, Ethan Smith. The 8-10 year olds won 2nd in regular season and 2nd in the tournament. Cheyenne Kay was the coach who assisted the athletes in an amazing season.

The League Coordinator, Shannon Garner, was very grateful for the host of volunteers who worked the concession stands and kept score.

The Goldonna Baptist Church is hosting their, “Destination Dig”, bible school at 6:00pm starting on July 11 through July 16. A kid-friendly supper will be served to the VBS goers nightly. The church is still serving meals on Wednesday nights utilizing the donation from the Tony Chachere Company. This is the gift that keeps multiplying and feeding the five thousand. Dinners are served beginning at 5:30 every Wednesday night except for the Wednesday of VBS week. These meals will continue until the end of August. The week after Labor Day they will resume their Kingdom Kid ministry on Wednesday nights 6:00 to 7:15. This ministry was put on hold during COVID19. Everyone is looking forward to this excitement as it is one of the community favorites!

For everyone who ever attended Goldonna High School before it closed, there will be a reunion on July 10 at the Goldonna Baptist Church. The menu will include fried fish and all of the trimmings that you need to have a successful meal. You can contact Linda Dupree to reserve your spot. Tickets are $20. Please spread the word to all of your classmates who may have attended.

As you can see there are many continuous community events all year that help build the family like atmosphere that Goldonna is known for. These events would not be possible without the love of community and love for your neighbors that all of the residents hold in their hearts. There are three thriving churches in the village that are known for outreach and a school that is growing by leaps and bounds thanks to the support of a new principal and the love from the residents. It may not be too late to register your pre-k child for class. Be sure and visit the school’s face book page for more information.
