Early Morning Raid by City Police Results in Gun, Drug Felony Charges

The early morning execution of a search warrant on May 9 at 507 Third Street in Winnfield has resulted in the arrest of two local men for gun and drug-related charges.  The search was the result of an on-going investigation into what was initially reported as a Drive-By Shooting on North Pineville Street the evening of April 26.

Initial response by officers discovered that a bullet was fired into the occupied residence at 207 North Pineville Street.  The homeowner’s security system revealed two suspects on foot, not in a vehicle.

Subsequent investigation led to the probable identity and location of the shooter as well as possibly the weapon involved. A felony warrant was issued for the arrest of a juvenile, currently staying in Winnfield, along with a search warrant for the residence.  Although suspects initially ran from officers as they approached the house at 4 a.m. May 9, they were quickly apprehended and two handguns recovered during the chase.

Upon execution of the search warrant, officers recovered boxes of ammunition and approximately 16 grams of Marijuana, a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Schedule I.

The suspect has been charged with violation of LRS 14:94 Illegal Use of Weapons or dangerous instrumentalities.  He was also charged with LRS 14:108 Resisting an Officer; LRS 14:95.1 Possession of firearm or carrying concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies, and LRS 40:966 Possession of CDS Schedule I (Marijuana).

Also charged in the incident was Corey Williams, age 26, of Winnfield, charged with Possession of firearm or carrying concealed weapon by a person convicted of certain felonies.

Both are housed at the Winnfield City Jail awaiting hearings.  As of press time, bond has not been set. The Winnfield Police Department reminds people that suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
