Calvin Cougars Varsity Fall Short at LHSAA State Semi-Finals But Still Have Our Hearts!

Calvin Cougars Varsity fell behind early and couldn’t come back in an 11-1 loss to Hicks on Wednesday. Hicks scored on a double by Bradley Pelt, an error, and a single by Cayden Cowgill in the first inning.

The Calvin Cougars Varsity struggled to contain the high-powered offense of Hicks, giving up 11 runs.

Hicks opened up scoring in the first inning, when Pelt doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Hayden Doyle led things off on the pitcher’s mound for Hicks. The ace surrendered one run on seven hits over four innings, striking out four and walking zero.

Dylan Kyle was on the mound for Calvin Cougars Varsity. The hurler surrendered six runs on three hits over two innings, striking out one. Cooper Spangler and John Landon Poisso entered the game as relief, throwing two innings and one inning respectively.

Calvin Cougars Varsity totaled eight hits. Spangler and John Bradley Griffin all managed multiple hits for Calvin Cougars Varsity. Griffin and Spangler all had two hits to lead Calvin Cougars Varsity.

Zach Haymon went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Hicks in hits.
