Ms. Barbara Nell Hughes Slayter, age 73 of Winnfield, passed away from this life on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at her residence, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born on November 15, 1947 in Winnfield. In her younger years, she worked at Grantadams Dairy Maid, Olin Kraft, Bell South and was a Licensed Cosmetologist. Later in life, she went back to school and earned her license as a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked many years at the Allergy and Asthma Center in Alexandria, The Oaks Care Center in Pineville and The Winn Parish Council on Aging.
She was preceded in death by her mother and step father, Eunice and John Kerry, her father, Roy Hughes, her grandparents, Hardy and Ruth Williams and Henry and Maggie Hughes, and her grandson, Douglas Thompson Jr.
She is survived by her children, Kimberly Bruce (George), Shani Slayter, and Brandon Slayter (Jennifer) all of Winnfield; Grandchildren, Megan Glenn (Chris) Dylan Bruce (Meagan), Savanah Carr (Colton), Billie Thompson, Braxton Slayter, Brady Fallis, Carlie Rhea Slayter, Shaina Dupree, Brian Glenn and Duane Fallis; Great-Grandchildren, Peyton Glenn, C J Bruce and Jaxon Carr. She is also survived by the father of her children, Michael Paddie (Cindy) and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 1, 2021 at The Family Church in Winfield at 2:00 PM with Reverends Joel Hines, Richard DeBusk and Bro. Mark Green officiating. Burial will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery in Saline, LA under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winfield.
Visitation will be observed on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the Church from 5pm-9pm and again on Friday, January 1, 2021 from 9am until service time.
Serving the family as Pallbearers will be Chris Kerry, George Futrell, Chris Robertson, Colton Carr, Brian Glenn, Danny Slayter, Heath Landry and Duane Fallis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brandon Slayter, Dylan Bruce, Braxton Slayter, Peyton Glenn, Brady Fallis, CJ Bruce, Jaxon Carr, and Michael Paddie.
