WINNFIELD, La. – The City of Winnfield is pleased to receive the 2024 Outstanding City Award, presented by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and Keep Louisiana Beautiful.

The Outstanding City Award celebrates community involvement and recognizes the city with a substantial cleanup effort. The selected city demonstrated strong community unity and a collective commitment to maintaining a clean environment and a thriving hometown.

The City of Winnfield held its Love the Boot Week event on April 20,2024. The collaboration between the City of Winnfield and the Winn Parish Police Jury brought teams from near and far cleaning up streets throughout the parish and city. This event was in conjunction with the city receiving the Keep Louisiana Beautiful grant, providing new trash receptacles to have a more positive impact on the place we take pride in calling home. It takes us all coming together working as a community to keep our city beautiful. We would like to encourage everyone to not stop here, but when you see trash, pick it up and place it in the trash receptacle. Through the Love the Boot event, City of Winnfield collected 65 – 55 gallon trash bags of litter, consisting of items such as plastic bottles, fast food packaging, and tire debris. Upon collecting items, they were weighed at the City’s Compact Station, weighing in at a total of 10,470 lbs. of waste being removed from Winn Parish roadways.

Mayor Gerald Hamms would like to extend his heartfelt thanks to City Councilwoman Erikia Breda and Councilman Matt Miller for their dedicated involvement in the Love the Book Week – Keep Louisiana Beautiful Clean Up efforts. Their commitment to our community’s cleanliness sets a commendable example for all. Additionally, Mayor Hamms expresses his gratitude to Winn Parish Police Jurors, President Frank McLaren and Author Robinson along with the entire office staff for their invaluable contributions to this cleanup initiative. He would also like to extend a thank you to Mayor Janet Finklea of the Village of Atlanta for leading the efforts in Atlanta.

Furthermore, Mayor Hamms acknowledges LSU AgCenter Nutrition & Community Health Agent, Shannan Chevallier for her exceptional leadership and efforts in coordinating this successful project. Her expertise was instrumental in bringing our recent project to fruition.

This project wouldn’t have been successful without the numerous churches, civic organizations, and individuals whose enthusiastic participation made this cleanup effort a resounding success. Their collective effort truly embodies the spirit of community pride and collaboration in Winnfield, states Mayor Hamms.

“The City of Winnfield stepped up and demonstrated what it means to Love the Boot,” said Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. “I commend them for their efforts to clean up and beautify Louisiana. Let’s all keep working together to put the paradise back in our Sportsman’s Paradise.”

“Congratulations to City of Winnfield for winning the 2024 Outstanding City Award,” said Susan Russell, Executive Director of KLB. “Your energy and enthusiasm were like nothing we’ve ever seen. Thank you for promoting environmental stewardship in your community.”
