Entergy is reporting 4,080 customers without power. Winn Parish Police Jury President Josh McAllister posted an update on the electricity situation earlier today on his Facebook page.
City of Winnfield
Per Mayor George Moss, “We are adding power every minute, as fast as we can. There are still some tough spots, but we have 43 guys working on it in the city.”
Winnfield Mayor George Moss, Jessie Phillips, and the city council have graciously opened the Allen Building for a shelter in place facility. If you have elderly family or friends with compromised health issues and need to get them out of the heat, they will be allowed to use the building to hook up any machines for oxygen or other medical devices to power and help them stay cool. Use of the building will be on a first come first serve basis as there is limited capacity inside the building.
Winn Parish was added to the Louisiana Disaster Declaration. The designation allows citizens to apply for Disaster Assistance from FEMA. Disaster assistance may include grants to help pay for temporary housing, emergency home repairs for the primary residence, uninsured and underinsured personal property losses, medical, dental, and funeral expenses caused by the disaster, and other serious disaster-related costs such as childcare, medical and dental expenses. All citizens impacted by Hurricane Laura are encouraged to register as they may be eligible for FEMA assistance.
Before you apply, contact your insurance company and file a claim for the disaster-caused damage. FEMA will require your claim number when you apply. Take photographs or video of the damage and keep all receipts related to home repair.
The link to register is https://www.disasterassistance.gov/ or by calling 800-621-3362. After registering, create an account to check your application status, view FEMA messages, update your personal information, and upload necessary documents.
